Sutherland Shire Loneliness Project
Published: Tuesday 7th August, 2018
A friendly phone call or visit can go a long way towards making someone feel part of our community. Council is working with community partners on a project to help tackle loneliness.
The Sutherland Shire Loneliness Project aims to connect lonely and socially isolated older people with regular social connections. Council will work with community partners to combat loneliness through participation in a Befriending Program, Social Groups and connecting people to community services, events and activities.
NEED TO CONNECT
If you are feeling like you could do with a new friend in your life be connected through your local community organisation.
The Befriending Program will have volunteers regularly visit and call people who are feeling left out and provide them with ongoing support and friendship.
BE A FRIEND AND VOLUNTEER
Do you like to have a chat? Do you like helping others? We are calling on those who have some free time to volunteer as a ‘friend’ to provide company and conversation for Shire community members. If you’re caring, friendly and can volunteer to visit or make calls on a regular basis, then register online as a ‘Befriending Volunteer’ and attend the Volunteer Information and Training Session on Wednesday, 3 October 2018 at Club on East, 7 East Parade, Sutherland. Registrations essential. Register online now.
Community partners are starting several small social groups that will meet weekly throughout Sutherland Shire. If you are interested in joining a group get in contact with us.
